Like you, I love my books. And when I read, I like the feeling of holding the book, turning the pages, smelling the paper and ink. But on my recent travels, I took my son's kindle Paperwhite (he acquired his used, on Amazon, for a very reasonable $50) - trying to save poundage on the already-limiting 50 that they allow you. I have to admit that I enjoyed using it very much. It is not as easy for me (yet) to flip back and re-read a favorite passage, but he assures me that book-marking can become second nature.
He, on the other hand, has gone retro with a typewriter. He says that using it for his homework avoids the distraction of other things looming on the internet. He has ordered several font balls to give his work extra flair, and many of his assignments are beautiful.
